Prime materials
Prime materials are virgin and first-quality polymers — the pellets and powders that come straight from a petrochemical producer with a full certificate of analysis and a guaranteed specification. Al Qaryan Industries imports prime polyethylene, polypropylene and PVC from producers and traders in Japan, the USA, Canada, Malaysia, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia, and supplies them to manufacturers in Pakistan alongside our recycled grades. When a product needs a certified pressure rating, a food-contact declaration or a repeatable melt flow, prime is the only material that will do.
What makes a material prime
Prime means the material meets the producer’s published specification in every respect and is sold with documentation that says so: the grade designation, the melt flow index, the density, the additive package, and usually a certificate of analysis for the production lot. Prime material has not been reprocessed, has not been blended with anything else, and carries the producer’s warranty for the application it was designed for.
The distinction that matters commercially is between prime, off-grade and reprocessed. Prime carries a specification you can design to. Off-grade is the same polymer outside its published window and is priced accordingly. Reprocessed is material that has already been through a melt history. All three have a place in manufacturing, but they are not interchangeable, and a supplier who blurs the line is a supplier who will eventually cost you a production run.
The prime grades we trade
We handle the commodity polymers that Pakistani manufacturers consume in volume, in the forms and packaging that suit their processes.
| HDPE | Film, blow moulding, injection and pipe grades; pellets |
|---|---|
| LDPE | Film, coating and moulding grades; pellets |
| LLDPE | Film and rotomoulding grades, including metallocene grades; pellets |
| PP homopolymer | Injection, raffia, fibre and film grades; pellets |
| PP copolymer | Impact copolymer for crates, automotive and appliances; pellets |
| PVC resin | Suspension and emulsion grades; powder |
| PET resin | Bottle and fibre grades; pellets |
| Engineering polymers | PC, ABS, PMMA and PA grades on enquiry |
Where our prime material comes from
Our prime supply is import-led. Japan, the USA and Canada supply high-specification polyolefins and engineering grades where consistency matters. Malaysia, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and the UAE supply commodity polyolefins at container economics that work for the Pakistani market. We buy both from producers directly, where volumes allow, and from established international traders where a specific grade is only available in smaller lots.
Local production covers a share of the commodity market and we buy locally where the price and availability are better than an import. For a manufacturer, the practical question is not where the pellet was made but whether the certificate, the lot consistency and the delivery date can be relied upon — and that is what we underwrite.
Specifications and documentation
Prime material is bought and sold against a specification, so the paperwork is the product. The table below shows what we provide and what a buyer should insist on seeing for a certified application.
| Grade designation | Producer grade code, stated on the bag and on the certificate |
|---|---|
| Melt flow index | Published value with test method and condition |
| Density | Published value with test method |
| Certificate of analysis | Lot-specific results where available from the producer |
| Additive package | Antioxidant, UV and slip content as published by the producer |
| Food contact | Producer declaration where the grade carries one |
| Packaging | 25 kg bags on pallets, jumbo bags, or bulk |
| Origin | Country of manufacture and producer name |
| Minimum order | One truckload locally; full container for imports |
Prime, off-grade and recycled: choosing correctly
The most expensive mistake in plastic purchasing is not paying too much per kilo, it is buying the wrong grade and finding out in production. A pipe that must be certified to a pressure class needs prime resin with a documented MRS classification. A food container needs a grade with a food-contact declaration. A drainage pipe, a cable cover or a crate usually does not, and there a recycled or off-grade material will do the job at a lower cost.
Our position is straightforward: we sell all three and we will tell you which one your application actually requires. If recycled material will meet your specification, buying prime is a waste of money. If your product must be certified, recycled material will fail the test and no amount of processing will fix it.
How we handle import and delivery
Prime imports move in containers, cleared through Karachi, and delivered to the customer’s factory by road. Lead time depends on the shipping line and on whether the grade is in stock; for regularly consumed grades we hold buffer stock so a customer is not exposed to a shipping delay.
We handle the documentation, the customs process and the inland transport, which means a manufacturer places one order and receives one delivery rather than coordinating a foreign producer, a shipping line and a clearing agent. For a factory running continuous production, that simplification is worth as much as the price.
What prime materials are used for
Every application where the specification has to be guaranteed.
- Pressure pipe certified to a classification such as PE100
- Food-contact packaging, containers and closures
- Medical and pharmaceutical mouldings
- Blown film for packaging where strength and clarity are specified
- Automotive components with published performance requirements
- Electrical components requiring a certified insulation grade
- Rotomoulded tanks requiring a potable-water declaration
- Any product where a customer audit requires traceable material
What moves the price of prime materials
Prime material is priced by import parity: the landed cost of a container from the Gulf, Southeast Asia, Japan or North America, plus clearing, inland freight and the trader’s margin. Because the reference is a container price, small movements in the rupee-dollar rate change the whole market within days, and buyers who quote weekly rather than daily get caught out. Our pricing follows the import cycle rather than any local list.
Availability is the other half. A specific grade from a specific producer may simply not be in the country, and then the choice is to wait for a container or accept a substitute from another plant. Manufacturers running a certified product cannot substitute freely, so they plan around shipping schedules. That is why holding buffer stock of regularly consumed grades is worth more than shaving a few rupees off a single lot.
Specifying prime materials: what to send us
- The grade designation if you know it, or the application and target properties if you do not
- Melt flow index and density you need, with the test conditions your specification uses
- Whether the application requires a food-contact declaration or a certified pressure classification
- Monthly tonnage and delivery city, so we can confirm whether a truckload or a container is the right unit
- Any documentation your customer audit will require — COA, origin, or a specific producer
- Whether you can accept a substitute grade if the exact one is between shipments
Buying prime materials from Al Qaryan Industries
Al Qaryan Industries imports and supplies prime HDPE, LDPE, LLDPE, PP, PVC resin and PET to manufacturers across Pakistan, and has been trading polymers since 2007. Prime material sits alongside our recycled grades so a customer can buy both from one supplier against one delivery schedule.
Buying prime from us: send the grade designation if you know it, or the application and the properties you need if you do not. Include your monthly tonnage and delivery city. WhatsApp +92 333 201 0506 reaches our trading desk and we will confirm stock, origin and lead time.
If you are a producer or an international trader looking for a buyer in Pakistan, we are interested in consistent container volumes of commodity polyolefins and will discuss both spot and programme business.
Questions buyers and suppliers ask
What is the difference between prime and off-grade?
Prime meets the producer published specification in full and comes with documentation. Off-grade is the same polymer outside that window — different melt flow, colour or pellet quality — and is priced lower with a narrower set of applications.
Can you supply a certificate of analysis?
Yes, lot-specific where the producer issues one. For locally held stock we provide the producer documentation that came with the lot.
Do you hold stock or import to order?
Both. Regularly consumed commodity grades are held as buffer stock; specific or unusual grades are imported against an order, with the lead time confirmed at quotation.
Why buy prime from a trader rather than directly from the producer?
Because a container is a large commitment and a trader can break it into truckloads, hold stock, handle customs and deliver when you need it. For a factory that consumes less than a container a month, that is usually the only practical route.
